Overview

Zune explored the combination of object detection and augmented reality in a mobile product flow. The app let users scan real objects, map specific actions to them, and trigger shared behaviors from similar scans.

The project brought together mobile development, TensorFlow-based recognition, AR layers, and a product-oriented interaction model.

Concept

Zune aimed to turn everyday objects into entry points for shared digital context. A user could scan a real object and attach content or actions to it, then other users scanning the same object could access that layer of information.

The idea was especially compelling in museums and educational spaces, where the experience could go beyond static labels or QR codes and become something discoverable, social, and interactive.

What still holds up

Even though the project was eventually discontinued, the underlying direction still feels relevant: computer vision as an interface primitive, tied to shared context instead of novelty-only AR overlays.

It remains a strong example of product experimentation around recognition, discovery, and a more expressive relationship between physical and digital environments.
